The Roma man who threatened to kill at the Safe City protests, Rafet Memishovski, apologized for the threats last night via a video posted on social media. He said he was enraged because the police took his cousin’s vehicle because he didn’t have a driver’s license.
At the protest, he threatened to fight and kill because the vehicles of those who drive without a driver’s license were confiscated.
Memishovski says he made a mistake and that it won’t happen again.
“I apologize to the entire government and the entire ministry, the prime minister, the president for making a mistake and for threatening. This won’t happen again. I was angry because my cousin’s car was confiscated, we were all under stress, we went on strikes. We apologize. This won’t happen again. We will not threaten each other anymore,” said Memishovski in his video message.
Roma people from Bitola, Shtip and Prilep have protested with blockades on several occasions this week and demanded the repeal of legal amendments that would have their vehicle confiscated if a driver is found without a driver’s license.
