The Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) on Wednesday (September 20, 2023), through the RASFF Window application from the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) received a notification about an unsafe product from the category of fruits and vegetables exported from the country – fresh peppers intended for the market in Croatia.

During border control, the sample taken for laboratory analysis showed a deviation in relation to the presence of pesticide residues. Namely, the obtained result showed the presence of residues of the pesticide formethanate and a value that represents a serious risk to human health.

Croatian authorities have banned the import of the disputed product.

“If the shipment with the unsafe products returns to the country, the FVA will issue an order for its harmless destruction, which will be carried out under the supervision of the Agency’s inspection services,” said the Food Agency.
