The basic food products, which are part of the daily use of the citizens, will continue to be taxed at the lowest VAT rate of five percent, as provided by the Value Added Tax Law.

The taxation of basic food products is more closely defined by the Decision on the determination of goods and services subject to a preferential VAT rate, which the Government adopted on September 28, and which comes into force Friday. The decisions made, says the Ministry of Finance, will not affect the increase in the final price of basic food products.
