Albanian police prevented smuggling of artifacts and icons

The Albanian police near the city of Rogozhina prevented the smuggling of artifacts and icons and arrested two people in whose vehicle they were discovered.
“As part of the “Icons” raid, in the vehicle in which the now arrested Pelumb Leka (53) and Emanuel Chacho (56) were, the police discovered and seized 13 statues and icons of different sizes and shapes. In cooperation with a person employed as a security guard in the archaeological parks, they secured statues and icons,” reads the police report.
The stolen objects, from the archaeological parks in Fier, Gjirokastro and Berat, were sold to foreign citizens from Italy, Greece and Montenegro, for a value of 10,000 to 20,000 euros.
