The protest scheduled for Sunday with a planned blockade of three border crossings between Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia (BMC) Gjueshevo – Deve Bair, StankeLisichkovo – Delchevo and Zlatarevo – Novo Selo has been canceled for the time being, Viktor Stoyanov, president of the Bulgarian Foundation “Macedonia” told BTA. Stoyanov earlier launched a Facebook poll on the idea of blocking Bulgaria’s border crossings to the country.

The decision was made after talks with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Bulgarian ambassador to Macedonia, BTA reported.

According to Stoyanov, the organization traditionally works in coordination with institutions and it is precisely this coordination that led to the assessment that currently this type of protest action, including even a short-term blockade of the border, would be counterproductive.

He also emphasized that the goal of the initiative was to provide an opportunity to express civic stance on topics related to relations with the Republic of Macedonia and the situation of Bulgarians in the country.
