A deal between the Macedonian Public Enterprise State Roads and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for funding the construction of the Skopje-Blace motorway was signed Monday in the Government building. Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski stresses that this is a project that has been announced for decades, and he is very pleased that six motorway sections will soon be developed throughout the country.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski noted that such capital projects develop the country.
The Granit construction company is leading a consortium that will build this motorway, domestic companies are showing that they can work and carry out large construction projects, Nikoloski points out.
The Skopje-Blace motorway has a total length of 12.5 kilometers, and since May 2020, construction activities have been taking place on the ground for the first phase, 2.5 kilometers long. The construction deadline is four years, but the authorities hope to complete the project as soon as possible.
According to the project, the route, with a total length of 12.5 kilometers, will contain five tunnels, two galleries, 12 bridges and about 40 other infrastructure facilities. For the construction of this highway, a grant of EUR 30.8 million and a loan of EUR 167.6 million have been provided through the EBRD.
“Todaywe are signing a grant between PESR and EBRD, for a grant that is part of the EU-Western Balkans Investment Framework in the amount of EUR 30.8 million and a loan of EUR 167.6 million for the construction of the Skopje-Blace motorway,” said PESR director Koce Trajanovski.
