Ten times higher fines for unfair trade practices, announces Macedonia’s Minister of Economy and Labor Besar Durmishi. In an interview with MIA, Durmishi reveals that, in addition to traders, fines are being considered for suppliers as well.
According to the minister, although the Law on Unfair Trade Practices has been in force for more than a year, its implementation is not complete. Some traders have formally harmonized their contracts, but illegal trade practices are still being identified.
“We believe that the penalties for such behavior of traders are not large, but rather small. Therefore, we will have amendments to the Law in the coming period – the penalties will be increased 10 times for all traders who do not respect the Law on Unfair Trade Practices. We are working dedicatedly to ensure a standard of living for citizens, traders can no longer profit on the backs of citizens. The penal policy is considering introducing penalties for suppliers as well, because they have not been covered so far, and it happens that instead of reporting traders who put pressure on them, they somehow agree with them to increase the discount,” Minister Durmishi pointed out.
