The trial against the former Oncology Clinic director Nino Vasev, who, along with two other oncologists, is accused of negligent treatment of patients, resumed Monday at the Skopje Criminal Court with the hearing of experts from Slovenia, who conducted medical expert reports for the prosecution.
Expert Maja Radnik from the Faculty of Medicine in Maribor, Slovenia, who prepared the medical expert report, together with assistant Jasmina Jordan, also from the faculty in Maribor, answered questions from the prosecution about the medical criteria on the basis of which oncology therapy is determined, as well as the protocols according to which this is done, but also about specific opinions on the treatment of a total of 51 medical documents on which the expert report was conducted.
Oncology medications within the indications have a precisely defined dose, method and time of application, which has been confirmed through various phases of clinical studies. Any change in the drug or dose must be clearly noted and for what reason.
The expert emphasized that multidisciplinary consultation was the gold standard of good oncology treatment.
Asked whether they had noticed any consultation in the histories they reviewed when determining or changing therapy, the expert said that out of the 51 medical documents reviewed, only one contained a record of a multidisciplinary consultation.
“The reviewed documentation shows that changes in treatment were not properly recorded and often without any explanation,” expert Maja Radnik pointed out.
