Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Wednesday was asked to comment on yesterday’s acquittal in the “Talir 2” case.
“During that period, VMRO-DPMNE was under political persecution and a kind of aggression, I would say, by the previous government, they invented cases that do not exist, such as the “Talir 1” and “Talir 2” cases. At last, the court, as far as the political party VMRO-DPMNE is concerned, returned a verdict that is in line with justice and all that is the expectation of the citizens. As for the person covered by the other part of the verdict, from what I could read, I can conclude that it is a consequence of the legal amendments to the Criminal Code adopted by the previous government led by SDSM and DUI,” said PM Mickoski.
The Prime Minister adds that as a result of those legal amendments, many political amnesties have been and will continue to be granted.
“Unfortunately, once you make a mistake, that mistake then becomes a rule and follows you,” noted Mickoski.
The Skopje Basic Criminal Court acquitted on Tuesday defendant N.G. in the case known to the public as “Talir”, assessing that the prosecution failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the criminal act for which the procedure was conducted after the amendments to the Criminal Code was committed.
