More than 15,000 new jobs have been created in the past year, bringing the number of employees in the country to around 710,000, and the number of registered unemployed is below 90,000, Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Tuesday.
According to PM Mickoski, if around 30,000 people involved in agriculture are excluded from this figure, the real number of unemployed is between 35,000 and 40,000 people, which represents less than 5 percent of the working-age population.
“This is the lowest unemployment rate in the country’s history,” Mickoski pointed out.
The PM added that government measures aimed at the business sector were contributing to increased investment activity in the country.
Referring to economic indicators, Mickoski noted that nominal GDP for 2026 is expected to reach around $22 billion. Compared to the previous government, he said, nominal GDP growth is three times higher, and this is in conditions when economic growth in the Eurozone is below 1 percent.
