Telemedicine is set to be a cornerstone in improving the healthcare system and tackling doctor shortage in the country, Macedonian Minister of HealthAzir Aliu said in a press release Saturday.
Commenting on the issue of healthcare professionals’ emigration, he stressed that part of the solution lies in involving doctors from the diaspora through technology.
“Today we have a large number of doctors in the diaspora who are highly-skilled specialists, acclaimed in the countries where they work. We do not want such human capacity to remain untapped,” added the minister.
According to Aliu, telemedicine will enable these professionals to contribute directly or remotely to Macedonia’s healthcare system. He noted that he had direct communication with representatives of academic institutions and many of them expressed their willingness to contribute, even without financial compensation.
