The VMRO-DPMNE MP group and the coalition submitted a bill to amend the Law on Handling Illegally Constructed Buildings, through an abbreviated procedure, so that citizens are not left with unresolved statuses for their homes due to administrative obstacles or slow procedures.
“Many of our fellow citizens have been stuck in the maze of legal disputes over property relations, various procedures or previous issues that were not their fault for years. The current law provided for a validity period until March 3, 2026, which would mean that thousands of cases that are in procedure would be terminated ‘by force of law’ at the stage they are in,” MP BojanStojanovski told a press briefing.
This proposal, as the MP noted, extends the period for an additional five years, i.e. instead of 15, the law will be valid for a total of 20 years – until March 3, 2031. It provides legal certainty for municipalities as competent authorities to be able to legally complete all already initiated procedures, addsStojanovski.
This amendment, he explained, does not provide for new requirements, but is exclusively in the service of those citizens who have already submitted documentation and have been waiting for their property list for years.
“I want to point out that this initiative comes as a direct response at the request of the ZELS Board of Directors and the municipalities that face real problems on the ground every day. It is also important to note that this legal solution does not cause any additional financial implications on the State Budget and will enter into force immediately after publication in the Official Gazette, so that there is no legal vacuum,” said the ruling VMRO-DPMNE MP.
