The prosecution is seeking the maximum prison sentence for StojancheJovanovski, accused of leading his wife and 6-year-old daughter to their deaths through years of domestic abuse.Jovanovski’s wifeIvana died on March 2nd, 2026 after falling from a balcony along with their minor daughter.
In her closing remarks at Tuesday’s hearing, prosecutor AdelaBojchevikj said that the statements of family members, psychiatric expertise, medical documentation, audio recordings and other evidence provide a clear picture of the continuous violence and control Ivana was subjected to before she forcibly took her own life. She lived in constant fear, control and a sense of hopelessness.
Regarding defendant StojancheJovanovski, the prosecutor said that according to the medical examination, he does not have a mental illness that would reduce his responsibility, but rather the need for control, manipulation, lack of self-confidence and suspiciousness dominated.
“I propose that the Court impose a sentence within the legal maximum that will reflect the gravity of the acts and the need for prevention of domestic violence. The prosecution is seeking the maximum sentence for all three crimes because of the message that physical and domestic violence can kill just as much as physical force,” the prosecutor said.
Jovanovski’s defense attorney DavorAngelevskirequested an acquittal for his client, arguing that the evidence presented in the proceedings is contradictory, the witness statements are mostly indirect and not direct, and the causality of the events on the critical day has not been proven.
In his closing arguments, defendant Jovanovski denied all charges against him, claiming that he neither incited nor forced his wife to commit suicide. He also disputed the allegations that he inflicted physical harm on Ivana, claiming that some of them were inflicted by Martin Sazdov.
