Inflation in July stood at 2.3 percent, while retail prices increased by 1.8 percent, which is the second-lowest in the region, Macedonian Prime Minister HristijanMickoski told reporters Sunday.

PM Mickoskisays that inflation is almost half the EU average, which stands at 2.9-3 percent.

“The European Union is our biggest trading partner. Remember in 2022, during the SDSM-DUI government, when inflation rose up to 20 percent, which they said was imported, while the EU average was less by half. Now our average is half the European one,” said Mickoski.

Comparing the 12 countries in the region – Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Albania, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, and Macedonia – the PM said Macedonia was ninth in July 2022, while second in July 2026.

“This is the difference between the incumbent and the previous authorities. Inflation in July 2022 was 14.7 percent, now it is 2.3 percent. They operated in a time when the war in Ukraine broke out, we are now dealing with the war in Iran. According to all analysts, the current conflict has far more devastating effects on the global economy and the energy sector,” said Mickoski.

According to the PM, comparisons must be made when implementing policies.

“We are making comparisons with the previous executive, and when doing them, the ratio is 3:1 and even up to 7:1,” addedMickoski.
