A Wizz Air plane, which was flying on the Skopje – Paris route Sunday morning, was forcibly diverted to land at Brussels airport after the crew reported an emergency during the flight due to a passenger’s deteriorating health condition.
According to information obtained by the media, while the plane was in the airspace over Luxembourg, the pilots requested an emergency landing at Brussels’ Charleroi Airport, which was closer, in order to provide medical assistance to the passenger who complained of heart failure.
According to data from the flight tracking website Flight RouteXplorer, the emergency was declared about two hours after takeoff. The flight in question is W64719, an Airbus A321neo.
Additionally, the Flightradar24 platform also confirmed that the plane ended up in the Belgian capital instead of Paris.
This is a regular procedure that is applied when the crew assesses that it is a life-threatening medical condition that the cabin crew members cannot fully handle, even though they are trained to provide emergency assistance.
According to data from specialized aviation sites, after landing at the Charleroi Airport, the plane took off again and landed at Paris’ Beauvais Airport with about 40 minutes of delay, after which the flight from Paris returned to the base in Skopje with the same crew and approximately same delay.
